Exciting things are happening at AWS! Recently, AWS announced a new specialty certification, updates to Amazon Fraud Detector, the launch of Instance Scheduler 2.0, and an enhanced CloudFormation Application Manager. Let’s dive into the latest AWS news and why you should be paying attention.
Announcing AWS Instance Scheduler 2.0
AWS has introduced Instance Scheduler 2.0, a tool that helps you save costs by managing start and stop schedules for your instances. The new version allows you to use SSM Automation Runbooks to handle instance scheduling more efficiently. With this update, custom Systems Manager Documents now enable state manager associations to control EC2/RDS instances. Unlike the earlier versions that relied on Lambda functions, this new method offers more control and flexibility in managing instance states and schedules.
Big Updates for Amazon Fraud Detector
Fraud prevention just got better with Amazon Fraud Detector’s new Transaction Fraud Insights model. This enhanced model detects up to 30% more fraudulent transactions and delivers better performance—up to six times longer than previous models. It’s perfect for combating online fraud, especially in card-not-present transactions.
In addition, Fraud Detector now has event dataset storage, allowing you to store fraud-related data directly within the service. You can also upload historical event data to improve the performance of machine learning models, which will continuously learn from this data to optimize fraud detection.
Best of all, AWS has reduced the price of fraud predictions by up to 56%. You can now hit the highest discount tier after just 100,000 predictions per month, down from the previous threshold of 1.2 million!
AWS CloudFormation Application Manager
For all the CloudFormation users out there, AWS has introduced the Application Manager. This new tool lets you manage, monitor, and resolve issues for applications launched within a CloudFormation stack. You can now view operational data, diagnose issues, and take action—all from a single, streamlined dashboard.
This manager integrates with Systems Manager, allowing you to see key information like drift status, tags, alarms, and runbook logs, helping you troubleshoot and maintain your applications more effectively.
